San Diego Padres: Manny Machado's Grand Slam Lifts Padres Over A's

Manny Machado's first-inning grand slam paced the San Diego Padres to a 7-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday night at Petco Park. In doing so, Machado became the first player in Padres history to hit a grand slam in the first inning of a game.

Machado's slam off A's starter Cole Irvin gave the Padres an early 4-0 lead. San Diego would tack on three more runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Ha-seong Kim and a two-run homer by Nomar Mazara.

The A's got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Seth Brown. But that would be all the offense Oakland would muster against Padres starter Yu Darvish. Darvish allowed just the two runs on four hits over six innings of work.
